SLC! Punk (1998)

This film stars Matthew Lillard as Stevo, one of the only two real punks in Salt Lake City, Utah. His friend is called Heroin Bob, which is ironic because he doesn't like drugs (with the exception of cigarettes or alcohol). 


I feel that the ultimate message in this movie, even if it wasn't intended, is that a lot of the time, you really aren't what you think of yourself as. For example, Stevo and Bob are the stereotypical anarchist punk type, but when Bob is given Percodan while he is intoxicated it kills him in his sleep, and when Stevo loses his best friend (which is Bob) he shaves his head, begins dressing in a more mature and socially acceptable fashion, and decides to go to Harvard. 

I think that another part of this movie is in the fact thaat losing someone so close to you can impact you in all kinds of ways, and that loss affects everyone differently. I always cry at when Bob dies, I just feel so bad for Stevo because he loses his best friend, and I always imagine how I would feel at losing my best friend. I think Stevo handles it rather well, all things considered.
